Resources

For Prospective Students

Consider exploring undergraduate research! It can help you:

  • Improve communication skills
  • Discover opportunities to present at conferences and become a published author
  • Build perseverence
  • Develop creativity and enhance problem solving skills
  • Develop mastery of laboratory techniques

No matter the subject area, research participation has been demonstrated to be an asset for undergrads. Studies show students who participate perform better academically, are more likely to graduate and are better equipped for graduate school or careers.

Research experiences can assist students as they discern their future career paths and frow in their ability to be persistent and focused on steps required to make their academic dreams a reality.

Resource Videos

As part of the Office of Recruitment and Science Outreach, scholars from two programs, the Voelcker Biomedical Reserach Academy and the South Texas Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program, came together to create resource videos for any student to benefit from. We are aware that not all students receive the same resources across the board. Please take the time to review the 12 videos linked below. These videos were not only created to make students competitive applicants for the Voelcker Academy or STUROP Program, but a better applicants for any opportunity they may come across.
